The northernmost suspense bridge in the world is connecting the island of Kvaløya and Hammerfest with Kvalsund. When it was opened in 1977, it was the longest suspense bridge in Norway with its 525 meters. There are good fishing conditions in the sound right under the bridge. Every year in spring and autumn, the reindeer herds are swimming across the Kval-Sound near the bridge as they migrate between their summer and winter pastures. On Sennalandet, they are rounded up, before some of the animals are slaughtered and their meat is sold to restaurants all over the country.
